<lj:music>Editors - Lights</lj:music>

I've been in the best city in the world last week, it was great. Well, back to reality again. Back to frozen Prague full of smog and half-melted snow.
The new semester started yesterday, the classes I've had so far are Spanish (looks like fun), something called Money, banks and financial markets (basically macroeconomics) and Philosophy (or axiology, and the professor is great). SAP class awaits me tomorrow, and so does Economic history or something like that.

(music)
"New" music:
- Editors - The Back Room
- Goldfrapp - Supernature
- Garbage - s/t 7" boxset - finally, it's still shrinkwrapped so I'm not sure if I should open it. And it had the carried bag with it.
- about 5 Mew singles / vinyls / promos

I've seen Mew live in London, it was great even, though the sound wasn't perfect during the first songs.

The setlist, just for me so I don forget it:

Special (with an "intro" when the band came to the stage)
Circuitry of the Wolf
Chinaberry Tree
Am I Wry? No
156
White Lips Kissed
(Bo's intrumental something)
She Came Home For Christmas
Why Are You Looking Grave?
Apocalypso
Saviours of Jazz-Ballet (Fear Me, December)
Saliva (Jonas on piano)
Mica (Jonas on piano)
Panda (Jonas on piano)
Snow Brigade
Zookeeper's Boy
Louise Louisa
(encore)
She Spider
- now the setlist says "ENVOY (MAYBE)" but they didn't play An Envoy To The Open Fields Sad
Comforting Sounds

I hope I'll see them again in April in Amsterdam.

And The Dresden Dolls are coming back to Prague on April 29th, yay.

And some nice lyrics by The Gift

Remembering?? A short piece of my life. 77 was the year, where everything starts, stop. I Lived on the top of the street in a building full of green, Field? Was not that screen. Scream? To call my best friend, that lived on the other side, TV off, Computers on? Bye bye – we found outside a club, where boys can be boys, like old times No girls at all? – All the time I was in school, we change our friends, we change our clothes we kiss the girls because we need to, it’s an ego of a normal boy…
But why at that time, it was strange not to look or act like a normal guy, songs were made to make me cry, and we can meet The Smiths at any time of our lives, cause songs will help you every time, just try to wake up one day rewind, we were only 17, and then did you wait for the lonely time just to say like a normal guy, HI my bed its empty, you want to try? And after? We grow as normal nature. And we still believe that if we try THE BAND can save your life. Life can be such an easy thing, just think the kid you were before - Creep was like a bomb. Share the songs with a friend, he will know your thoughts, he knows your songs, he brings the light you wish, you need to, it’s the cure to your lonely time. As you want to, he’s a Jesus in a genius way. You need a girl with the same light. A lie, at that time it was just a way to put us by the same side, we were more then 17. At that time a lie means a sacrifice, everybody knows why, but we were only… Again and again out of time, I know why we will say good bye, everybody knows why and we were almost 21, and then, older now, still you wait for a lonely time, just to say to a normal guy??? My bed still empty, please let’s try.
<lj:music>The Prostitutes - Sunshine 2006-02-02</lj:music>

I just woke up from a really bad and surreal dream about people breaking into our house. It was like the sixth time I had such dream (not the same though) and the first time since someone did it when I was at home. Well at least it was only a dream.

I've changed my mind again and I'm going to London on Wednesday for a few days. I managed to get a good ticket for Mew. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm trying to hope that it's not lost somewhere.

My uni threw away their new 500 000 euro registration system and went back to the old one. It has bugs and it sucks for people who started the uni last year and were used to the new one, but it works. The bad thing is that I realized that there are almost no interesting subjects for the next three semesters.

I'm going to learn Spanish. It's the first time I'm starting to learn a language without knowing it so I'm a little nervous.

(music)
I went to see a new (indie rock) czech band called The Prostitutes and they totally blew me away. I'd even start to jump if I could (I was taping it). It definitely became one of my top czech bands. They have some songs to listen to and download on their myspace. It's nothing really original but I love it. My recording is pretty good too ;)

And their poster is cool too :)

I've also been listening to a portuguese band called The Gift. I've seen them live last September but I didn't know any of their songs by then. I still can't decide if I like them or not.

(computer stuff)
I bought a new cooling fan for my graphics card, it looks nice, has blue LEDs and most importantly it's really silent.

Damn i'm so fucking nervous...! I don't know the results of my exam yet and I'll have to wait till 11 am tomorrow. I have no fucking clue what I'm gonna do if I don't pass.

At least I could finally sleep as long as I wanted, fell asleep at 16.20 yesterday and woke up today at 9.30, yay.

Btw if someone could kidnap me somewhere where it's not -10 at noon, please do it!

(music)
I've seen Depeche Mode live on Monday (aka the coldest day ever, I had red spots on my face for about a day from waiting 20 minutes for my friend's car). It was in relatively new venue, many people have told me it sucks, but it's not so bad... reminds me of Ahoy in Rotterdam a bit.

The support band, The Bravery, totally sucked. I thought they're going to be ok live, even though their album is boring, but it was terrible. Even my only favourite song (An Honest Mistake) sounded really bad.

DM came at 9 pm and started with two songs from their new album, but then they mostly played older stuff. My personal highlights were:
- the start of A Question of Time (first of the older songs, people started to jump)
- Home (fucking magical)
- Enjoy the Silence
- Never Let Me Down Again (it was fantastic to see all those people moving their hands from side to side)

Not many news again (or nothing that can be published on the Internet :D), I'm preparing for my last exam this semester, I've passed all the exams before but I have to pass this one or I'm gonna have problems.

(music)
- Standing tickets for Mew in London are sold out of course (I'm STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID because they still had them earlier this week) so I don't know if I should go there at all. I'll try ebay and maybe writing to some forums.
- Going to see Depeche Mode tomorrow. In a big new soulless venue. I'm not taping them.
- Client are playing tomorrow on one of the Depeche Mode afterparty's in Prague but I can't go.
- The new Placebo album has leaked last Monday and I like it.

Sooo exams are ok so far, wrote a tough test yesterday but made it somehow. Just 4 more tests and one oral exam in the next two weeks and this semester is over for me.

Nothing else happened except for the dinner on Sunday, it was cool, and I also got a bottle of portuguese wine and a video bootleg as a present. Thanks Zuzana :-*

(music)
The new Placebo single had its premiere on Monday evening on Radio 1 UK and I think it's ok... nothing extremely good but decent at least... only the chorus is a bit boring.

I've decided I'm going to see Mew in London in February no matter what, so I'm accepting donations :)

    <lj:music>Khoiba - That Reason</lj:music>

I am in a strange mood right now. I'm browsing through some old photos mostly from summer of 2003 that were taken by me or that are from concerts I went to at that time. And I remember a lot of stuff. It was so cool and perfect. Oh well.

The exam I wrote about last time went ok and I also successfully wrote some tests (statistics, business English and something I can't remember). The hardest part begins on Monday, a month of exams and such crap.

I'd like to go to London to see Mew on February 9th but I don't know if I'll be able to because of school and money... and I don't want to go alone to London.

(music)
The best album of 2006 so far: Mogwai - Mr. Beast. It's so fucking excellent... I've been listening to Glasgow Mega-Snake for a whole day. The first single (Friend of the Night) is great too. And it hasn't leaked to the Internet completely, so there's new stuff to look forward to :D

Bought some stuff for Christmas:
Muse - Absolution Tour DVD - I'm a bit pissed off by this, ok I really didn't expect them to release something that was on TV and every Muse fan has (I hope Warner Music won't do that to certain american band that was on Mushroom UK as well...), but I have to admit the bonus material is excellent
Franz Ferdinand DVD - very nice, two complete gigs, a documentary, a lot of other live footage
Queens of the Stone Age - Over The Years And Through The Woods CD+DVD - pretty good, but why the hell did they only make a NTSC version?!
Radiohead - Astoria DVD - haven't seen it yet
The Dresden Dolls - Paradise DVD - nice, the gig is a bit short though
Hard-Fi - Stars of CCTV - good, nothing special, but good

(geek stuff)
Didn't have the time to do anything really, but two things pleased me: Firefox 1.5 (fast) and KDE 3.5 (even faster, better looking etc.).

Oh and...
Happy new year people, try not to get too drunk, I don't want you dead you know...

Soooo I'm preparing for my economics exam on Wednesday... it's the exam I failed back in September... damn I have to do it somehow. I stay up till 5 in the morning everyday to learn, but most of the time I just stare at the walls. It's better than last time, but still, I don't remember much. I will have to be very lucky.

People from my secondary school organized a meetup on Friday, so I went there. It was funny, no one has changed at all. But it was a bit weird as well because there was basically nothing I could talk about with most of them.

(computers)
Didn't have the time to do anything with the server. <lj:music>Curve - Die Like a Dog</lj:music>

It started to snow in Prague this week and it's coooold, most of the time it's around 0 degrees. I'm gonna take some pics, there are places that look like the city in Blade Runner or Gotham City :)

I'm still doing things with nothing_to_lose attitude and it's fun most of the time, yay.

My biological clock is shifted again, I'm staying up till 3 or 4 am no matter how early I'm getting up.

Last Sunday I went to a shop with cheap books to get some CDs and buy the BeautifulGarbage cassette for my collection (they have it for 29 crowns, and the CD for 49... 1 euro = approx 32 crowns so it's pretty cheap) and found an old issue of a czech music magazine that had a CD with it I've been looking for for at least one year... it was a compilation of early 90s czech indie rock bands. Made me happy :)

On Wednesday I went to a reconstructed church with a friend to see a political debate about the EU... some important people like our prime minister and ex-president were there... but apparently they gave out too many invites and too many people came without them, so it was really crowded... we've stayed there for about 45 minutes and then went into a pub :)

Music
New CDs:
Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites - got this on a CD finally and I like it even more. The whole idon'tknowhomany minutes of Fox Cub / Apocalypso / Special / Zookeeper's Boy just rock.
Mew - Special (Single) - pretty good, includes live versions of Apocalypso and Special and also the video for Special
Client - City - good, which is what I expected :)
JJ72 - Coming Home (2 cd singles) - ok, nothing special though. I. Want. The. Album.
I Am X - Kiss + Swallow - I wanted to get this since I saw them live in summer. It's a bit boring from time to time but I can't wait for the gigs in March.

New stuff in.... other formats :)
Ladytron - Witching Hour - Destroy Everything You Touch is the most played song on my computer last week.
Air - Elle A Du Shell - a limited EP, haven't heard it yet
Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism - ok

Computer stuff
Bought a (used) 40 GB Seagate drive for the server and two new power supplies, one for the server and one for my normal computer. I've installed FreeBSD on the server and it rocks! The difference between FreeBSD and Debian seems like between Debian and Fedora... it took about 2 hours to set it up properly and to learn how to install new software (you can either compile it or download binary packages) and now it's running nicely, although I still have to setup some daemons.
On the other hand, the second power supply fried my DVD burner :( I've switched the computer on and immediately smelt something burning... I switched it off and found out it was the burner.. and then it wouldn't open. I've opened the cover...

I'll probably get a free replacement, so it's no big deal

I'm evil :( More evil than you think.

Anyway, last time I forgot to mention that I've registered a last.fm account. It's a website that shows what music you're listening to, what have you been listening to in the past, and makes various statistics etc... nice if you listen to music on your computer a lot. My profile is here, feel free to add me to your friends list.

It was a national holiday today in Czechia, to celebrate 16 years from the day the communist regime was overthrown. The sad thing is that the communist party would still get about 20 percent of votes in the elections. Stupid Czechia.

(music)
I've been watching Garbage dvd from March yesterday... well, I fucking want another tour!

(computer stuff)
I've decided to finally build a proper home server when I have the money to silence my old computer, and a buy new harddrive perhaps. I'll probably also try to set up a Radius server so I can use it for WPA authentication. And maybe it's time to bring back the Placebo Hub ;)

Time for an update...

Me and my girlfriend broke up after almost two and half years... most of the time it's ok, but sometimes I really feel fucked. And I'm doing really stupid and weird things. Damn, I'm not used to be alone :( I hate evenings when I'm alone at home...

Still don't have job, not that I'm not used to it. It's ok at the uni, they don't want me to do anything lately and most of the tests are easy so far.

I've seen the japanese film Battle Royale... well... wow. Also seen Land of the Dead, basically a zombie massacre just like I expected, plus Asia Argento :)

(music)
I Am X are going to have 2 gigs in Czechia in March, yay. At least something to look forward to.

Seen a Depeche Mode / The Cure tribute band last Thursday. It was cool, but I drank and smoked too much weed. Not good.

Right now I'm listening to first two Mew albums, it's nice the hear the original versions, like 156.

No new music I remember right now.. but I've ordered some stuff on Amazon yesterday...

(geek stuff)
That computer fair I wrote about last time was good. Too many children though... Tuesday was supposed to be 18+, but they allowed schools to come because of the public holiday later that week... so 16 year olds trying to get drunk were everywhere :) The funny thing was that the most interesting part of the fair were the old computers. You know, Atari 800 XE, Sinclair, Amiga 500 etc.. And tuned computers were cool as well :)

This was weird:

The rest is here.

I've played Quake 4 for a few hours, not bad, better than Doom 3. I used to go there when I was 16 or so, we used to be at the fair for about 2 hours, get free stuff (where did I put all those frisbees?), and then go to a park and get drunk. Yay, my idea of good time. I'm going there with different people this time, they want to stay at the fair the whole time, but I'm gonna find a way... :)

Well, good night.

I have an exam on Thursday and I have no idea about anything. That's gonna be funny. My semester starts next week. We got drunk and went to a club with 80's music, and drank even more there, it was nice. But no one would EVER get me to that place when I'm sober.

The policemen like to party as well!

"New music" from last week:
The Dresden Dolls - The Dresden Dolls - a year after everyone else, but it totally rocks. I can't believe they had a gig here in February
FLC - Livin' in the City - I didn't expect much, but it's good. Nothing special, but good for my mood.

A guy who manages most of my favourite czech bands started to organize "free mondays" in a club in the north of Prague. It's a nice place with two stages and a lot of bars. I went there last monday, there were too many people in there, but still, it was great. I went to see a czech band that opened for Cure in Berlin almost a month ago btw. It's a very nice place for tapers as well, I've taped again after a few months. Going there tomorrow again.
The only thing that sucks is that it is in a totally fucked up location, away from anything else, so it takes ages to get home.

But please, not here.

It seems that my favourite music venue here is going to open again, that's nice, even if I don't really care about the first gigs.

(geek)
My ADSL line is down for some reason, the ISP thinks the problem is on my side which is bullshit just like always. Fuck them. Well, welcome to the 56k world.
(/geek)

Hmm took a long time to update again...

Been to acidofil's website meetup, it was fun. I've decided not to drink for some time, or at least not to drink much. Right. I'm doing weird things when I'm drunk ;)

So Garbage have cancelled their .eu tour. I wonder what the fuck it going on.

I haven't written about Love Planet yet, have I? Well it's the best festival here I think. The only one that doesn't completely suck for sure... seen some nice bands there. I Am X rock! Nick Cave rocks! And a lot of other stuff was cool too. Some random pics I took, that with all those people on the stage is I Am X :) (a project of Chris Corner, that Sneaker Pimps guy)

(geek)
I've installed Debian Linux on my small home server (I just need apache + mysql + php + vsftpd and useless stuff like a shoutcast server) and I love it! I don't understand why everyone says it's so complicated... it's so cool, only installs what it has to (I couldn't install a minimal Fedora Core 4 because it required more had disk space than I have in the server) and runs with no problems...
(/geek)
